With over 24 years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and 18 years specializing in adult critical care, emergency medicine, and Level I Trauma, Audrey is the embodiment of skill, leadership, and resilience. As a seasoned traveler, lead therapist, and mentor, she has not only delivered exceptional patient care but has also guided and inspired countless healthcare professionals along the way.
What truly sets Audrey apart is her unwavering compassion in the most challenging moments. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in Detroit, MI, one of the hardest-hit regions in the country, she was instructed to move on after withdrawing life support—but she refused to let patients pass alone. Instead, she stayed by their side, holding their hand, offering comfort, and ensuring dignity in their final moments. It’s a choice that defines not just an extraordinary healthcare provider, but a deeply empathetic human being.
Her ability to perform under extreme pressure was evident again at one of her recent facilities, where she faced an unthinkable series of traumas. After working tirelessly to save a 12-year-old autistic child who attempted suicide, Audrey immediately transitioned to another critical case—a 26-year-old patient suffering from a life-threatening hemopneumothorax. Despite the immense emotional toll, she performed a chest tube procedure with precision and saved the patient’s life. In the midst of chaos, Audrey was more than a clinician—she was a steady force for her team and a source of comfort for grieving loved ones.
For her extraordinary dedication, resilience, and humanity, Audrey was honored with the Josie King Hero Award, a recognition given to those who go above and beyond to make a profound difference in the lives of patients and their families.
Through every high-stakes trauma, every difficult loss, and every life saved, Audrey has lived out Health Carousel’s mission to improve lives and make healthcare work better.
