Health Carousel Wins Cincinnati Community Service Award
January 16, 2020
Health Carousel is starting the year out strong and we are humbled to be recognized with the Medical Mutual Pillar Award for Community Service for our philanthropic work in 2019. Thank you to our dedicated employees who got involved by bringing ideas, giving of your time, and making donations that had a huge impact on our local and global communities. We look forward to having an even bigger impact in 2020 as we continue to improve how we all get involved and give back.
The Pillar award for Community Service honors businesses of all types and sizes that make outstanding contributions to their communities. Its purpose is to encourage a charitable environment, recognize creative efforts that make a difference and demonstrate the ties between the for-profit and nonprofit worlds. Health Carousel’s higher purpose is to improve lives and make healthcare work better. While we live that purpose every day by staffing healthcare professionals where they are needed most, our employees go above and beyond outside office hours to improve lives in our local communities as well through community service.
We aim to personalize the employee experience to each individual and we encourage our employees to give back in ways they connect to and feel passionate about. Our leaders lead by example, serving on boards of local and national organizations like Marijke Woodruff, our Chief People Officer serves on the board of the American Red Cross. Through this partnership, Health Carousel employees have donated more than $5500 this year to the Red Cross to support local families after the tornadoes devastated our neighbors in the Dayton area. Our leaders also drive programs like our Annual HC Summer Olympics program where an entire month of the competition is dedicated to #HCGivesBack where employees can have fun earning points for community service, volunteering, donating food/clothing/household items, or money to local organizations of their choosing and giving blood – all of which this year added up to an incredible impact of:
- 1,861 household items donated
- $523 in Monetary donations to 11 different charitable organizations
- 77 Volunteer Hours at 13 different locations
- 50+ Blood Donations
Our employees are the true drivers of our community service impact between participating in local charity races and walks to using their two days of Paid Volunteer Time Off, to creating their own donation drives and holiday giving. This year alone, Health Carousel employees have raised over $3500 for the American Heart Association through the Cincinnati Heart Mini Marathon, $250 for the Running for Rylea Memorial walk, and $2000 for the Boys and Girls Club through various events. We also reached our goal of 100 participants in the Light the Night Walk, raising over $15,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society with our company match, a meaningful goal for us, set to celebrate our 15 Year Anniversary of improving lives and making healthcare work better by the work we do every day. Beyond that our teams have made an impact by turning their team bonding events into #HCGivesBack events, volunteering at organizations like The FreeStore Foodbank, Greenacres, Matthew25, several charity golf outings, and much more. Each holiday season, along with our holiday gifts to employees, we give each employee a $50 donation gift card that they can apply to the charity of their choice because giving isn’t about us as a company, it’s about how we support our employees to be able to give back in the way they feel called. Our approach to giving back really is as unique as our employees!
